KSAMLA
TEAMS MEETING AT JFF WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24
@7:00 PM

Former
KSAFA President, AB Stewart Stephenson
(left), made the presentation of the
winning trophy to Barbican at the NCB 24
Hour Top-Up Masters League Championship
Final in 2008. With the KSAFA President is
KSAMLA Vice President, Errol McDonald
(third from right). Barbican won the
title 4-1 on penalties after the score
was tied 1-1 after extra-time.
The
Kingston and St. Andrew Masters Football
League Association (KSAMLA) will hold
its annual teams meeting at the
Conference Room of the Jamaica Football
Federation (JFF) on Wednesday, June 24
at 7:00 pm.
Paramount
among the discussions will be the lack
of a full sponsor for the 2009
edition of the League, as well as the
format for an abbreviated League set to
kick-off in mid July with a Champions
Cup game between the defending League
champions, Barbican Masters, and the
reigning Mid-season and Peter Cargill
Cup holders, Christian Ambassadors.
The world
wide recession has affected the league's
ability to procure a major sponsor as NCB Capital Markets/NCB
24 Hour Top-Up did not renew their
sponsorship. However, KSAMLA has manage
to secure part-sponsorship from
Avis-Rent-a-car, and is all set to
present a World Cup format involving seven
round-robin zones of four teams each,
with the top 2 teams from each zone
advancing to the knock-out round of 16 along with
the two best third place teams.
Waterhouse
returns to competition after a brief
absence, and Portmore Strikers seems set
to join the 26 participants of last
season.
IAN MCNAUGHTON RE-ELECTED AS KSAMLA
PRESIDENT
Ian McNaughton
(President) Errol
McDonald (Vice President)
Ian
McNaughton, the President of the
Kingston and St. Andrew Masters
Football League Association (KSAMLA)
since 2004, was re-elected unopposed
to serve his third consecutive term
in office at the KSAMLA Annual
General Meeting held on Tuesday,
March 10 at the PCJ Auditorium in
New Kingston.
The
other sitting KSAMLA Executive
members, Errol McDonald (Vice
President), Delroy Seixas (General
Secretary), Peter Evans (Treasurer),
and Bertram Scott (Public Relations
Officer), were also returned to
office unopposed.
Meanwhile, Pelicans Masters had
their two year ban reduced to one
year after their petition for
leniency was granted by the KSAMLA
Executive Committee. This decision
will allow Pelicans to participate
in the 2009 edition of the KSAMLA
Masters League. With the return of
Pelicans and Waterhouse,
twenty-eight teams are slated to
compete in this year's masters
league, while applications from
Portmore Masters, Tivoli Masters,
and Arnett Gardens Masters are still
pending.
The
KSAMLA masters league is scheduled
to kick-off on Saturday, April 25 at
Barbican Oval (6:00 pm) with the new
Champion's Cup opening game and
dress parade. The Champions' Cup
will see defending league champions,
Barbican masters, and reigning
mid-season and Peter Cargill Cup
champions, Christian Ambassadors,
battle for the first lien on the
inaugural Champions' Cup.
FOOTBALL FRATERNITY PAYS TRIBUTE TO COL.
BARNES
GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.
Col. Barnes served as the Chairman of
the Kingston and St. Andrew Masters
Football League Association (KSAMLA)
since the inception of the League in
1985 until his untimely death in 2009.

Football Club. Extreme right is Delroy

The 2009
Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the
Kingston and St. Andrew Masters Football
League Association (KSAMLA) will be held
on Thursday, February 12 at 7:00 pm at
the PCJ Auditorium in New Kingston.
The
present KSAMLA Executive committee, led
by Ian McNaughton, was elected in 2004,
and has served two consecutive terms in
office. The other elected members of Mr.
McNaughton's executive committee are
Errol McDonald (Vice President), Delroy
Seixas (General Secretary), Peter Evans
(Treasurer), and Bertram Scott (Public
Relations Officer).
During Mr.
McNaughton's presidency, the KSAMAL
masters league has grown in stature to
become a more organized and competitive
football league for players over-40, and
has enjoyed the sponsorship of NCB
Capital Markets, and NCB 24 Hour Top-Up for the past four years.
Mr. McNaughton also added a mid-season
final to the league, and introduced a KSAMLA Hall of Fame in order to honor
the pioneers of masters league football.

KSAFA President, AB Stewart Stephenson
(left), made the presentation of the
winning trophy to Barbican at the NCB 24
Hour Top-Up Masters League Championship
Final. With the KSAFA President is
KSAMLA Vice President, Errol McDonald
(third from right). Barbican won the
title 4-1 on penalties after the score
was tied 1-1 after extra-time.
Meanwhile,
the 2009 edition of the KSAMLA masters
league is scheduled to begin on
Saturday, April 25 with the opening game
for the Champions Cup. The inargural Champions
Cup will be contested between the
defending league champions, Barbican
masters, and the reigning Peter Cargill
Cup champions, Christian
Ambassadors at Barbican Oval at 5:00 pm.
Along with
the twenty-five KSAMLA affiliates who
competed in the NCB 24 Hour Top-Up
masters league in 2008, Waterhouse
masters are set to return to competition
in 2009, while there are applications
for KSAMLA affiliation pending from
Tivoli Gardens FC, Portmore Masters, and
Arnett Gardens FC. The decision to allow
new affiliates to compete in the masters
league in 2009 rest largely with the
procurement of sponsorship for the 2009
season which has not yet been finalized.

2008 Peter Cargill Cup Champions, Christian
Ambassadors
KSAMLA is
also seeking sponsors for the 2009
KSAMLA Football Association Cup (FA Cup)
which would be run concurrently with the
league, and contested by all KSAMLA
affiliates. The KSAMLA FA Cup, designed
after the English FA Cup, would be an
home and away contest with the away goal
rule being employed.

KUSH TAME ALL MASTERS 4-3 AS HARRIS
ENTERS THE HALL

Former
Jamaican international football player, Trevor "Jumpy Harris
(left), with his life-long-friend, Lorna Bell at Thursday's
Kingston and St. Andrew Masters Football League Association
(KSAMLA) Hall of Fame Day at Barbican Oval.
Former Jamaican international,
Trevor "Jumpy" Harris, the owner of Sports World, the first
sponsor of the Kingston and St. Andrew Masters Football
League (KSAMLA), was inducted into the KSAMLA Hall of Fame
at the Barbican Oval on New Year's Day.
In his acceptance speech,
Harris expressed his delight at being honored as an
inductee, and encouraged the League to continue to unearth
other deserving individuals that have contributed to the
development of masters football in Kingston and St. Andrew.
Meanwhile, in the Hall of Fame
Game, Kush masters edged the highly fancied KSAMLA All
Masters 4-3 in a very entertaining affair. Against the run
of play, the All Masters took an early 1-0 lead in the 10th
minute after midfielder Daniel Riley fired home from close
range.

Fame inductee, Trevor "Jumpy" Harris, greets Kush's ace
midfielder, Mario Hackett before the New Year's Day KSAMLA
Hall of Fame game. Kush out-scored the All Masters 4-3.
Lorna Bell follows immediately behind Jumpy Harris.
Kush stormed back to equalize
in the 20th minute as former Jamaican international, Wolde
Harris, the son of Trevor Harris, cracked one in for a 1-1
tie. Kush deservingly went ahead 1-2 in the 31st minute from
the boots of the League's joint-leading goal scorer,
Desmond Taylor.
Kush cemented their lead 1-3
early in the second half as a fine give-and-go resulted in a
well taken goal by Mark Sterling. The All Masters slowly
took control of the game late in the second half and struck
twice to level the score at 3-3. Central midfielder, Patrick
Miller, poked home in the 54th minute, and Riley got his
brace in the 64th minute.

Defending champions Harbour View and
five time champions Portmore United are
all set to battle for the 2008-2009 JFF
National U-21 crown on Friday at the
Ferdie Neita Park (4:00 pm). With a two
point lead, Harbour View only need a
draw to retain their crown while
Portmore has to win to record their
sixth U-21 title.
"We
don't know how to play for a draw",
declared Harbour View's coach, Harold
Thomas. "It's a fitting final game to a
long and tough season as both teams
are by far the two best teams in the
competition, coach Thomas concluded.
Portmore's coach, Jeffrey Hewitt said,
"We know what we have to do to win this
game, and we are optimistic that we can
pull off a victory in this last game of
the season."

While
both Harbour View and Portmore are
blessed with enormous talent in their
squads, statistically, their is not much
to choose between the two teams. The
champions have out-scored Portmore
61-53, but have conceded more goals
(25-18). Portmore has won 11 games
at home this season and Harbour View has
won 11 games away from home. Both
encounters between these rivals this
season have ended in draws (1-1 and
0-0).
The "Stars of the East"
have made it to two JFF U-21 finals and
lost them both to Portmore United in
2003-2004, and 2004-2005, but had the
consolation of having their leading
striker, Kemar Petrekin, winning the
Golden Boot in both seasons, and being
named MVP in 2004-2005. HVFC have
also won both end-of-round finals this
season against
Tivoli Gardens and Sporting Central,
respectively.
Harbour View will be depending on their
two leading goal scorers, John-Ross
Edwards and Andre Fagan to get the game
winner, while Portmore will look to Tremaine
Stewart. Edwards is tied for third in
the goal scoring race with 12 goals,
Fagan has 10, while Stewart has registered 10 goals for Portmore.

Portmore has dominated the JFF U-21
league since its inception in 2000. The
first two titles were won by Arnett
Gardens in 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, with
Portmore establishing their dynasty by
winning the next five titles from 2002
through 2007. Harbour View broke
Portmore's dynasty by snatching the
title last season, and are poised to
retain the crown this season.
In
other games this Friday, Boy's Town host
Tivoli at Collie Smith Drive in another
thrilling inner-city derby;
Sporting Central are at home to Waterhouse
at Brancourt; St. George's
travel to the Elleston Wakeland Centre
to tackle Village United; Reno journey
to the Constant Spring oval to meet Meadhaven for the
last U-21 game for both teams as they
both were relegated from the Digicel
Premier League, and are ineligible for
the U-21 league next season; and, Rivoli
entertains Arnett Gardens at the Spanish

Oval. All games begin at 4:00 pm.

Dennis "Valdez" Reid
May 25, 1947 - June 12, 2009
Former
Cavaliers Football Club stalwart, Dennis
"Valdez" Reid, died last Friday at the
Plantation General Hospital in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, after a brief
illness at the age of 62.
Reid
played right-back at Cavaliers under
legendary coach Leighton Duncan, and
along side Cavaliers greats like Delroy
"Mutty" Scott, Vester Constantine, Alty
McKoy, Art, Asher, Roy, and Derrick
Welch, Tony Morrison, Delroy Seixas, and
Joshua Hamilton. "Valdez" was also a
member of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF)
where he played and served with Jamaica
Football Federation (JFF) President,
Captain Horace Burrell, Oscar Black,
and Chippy Dawes.
Captain
Horace Burrell, the President of the

has left a void in Cavaliers and KSAFA
that will never be filled".
