PELICANS SET THE STANDARD WITH CLINICAL 3-0 WIN OVER JDF

The UWI Pelicans (white) scored a 3-0 win over JDF at Winchester Park on Sunday night.

In a smooth display of attacking and defensive football, the UWI Pelicans dismantled a very competitive JDF team 3-0 at Winchester Park on Sunday night as action continued in the NCB 24 Hour Top-Up masters league. more

After a fast-paced 0-0 first half which saw the Pelicans missing many easy chances to take the lead, striker Everard Hylton came alive at the resumption of play to register a quick brace and an assist to put the game away for the Pelicans. The big strong forward opened the scoring in the 45th minute, assisted on Albert Fung's goal in the 47th minute, and sealed the issue 3-0 in the 50th minute.  It was the UWI Pelicans' third win in as many games.

M.V. Exodus (white) and Professionals played to a 2-2 draw at the Bell Chung Oval on Sunday.

Debutants Constant Spring suffered their first lost of the season when they went down 1-0 to Christian Ambassadors at the Constant Spring Oval. In an evenly matched game which saw both teams failing to convert their share of scoring opportunities, the Ambassadors were awarded a penalty at the death after Leroy "Careca" Thompson was brought down in the penalty area in the 80th minute. Derrick Evans made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Christian Ambassadors a very well deserved 1-0 win, and a share of the lead in Zone B with Constant Spring as both team have twelve points from five games. In the Spring Oval curtain raiser, Lion King and Maxfield played to a 0-0 draw.

Up at Duhaney Park, Robert Powell registered the first hat-trick of the season as 2006 champions Nautica beat Washington Strikers 4-1. After a goalless first half, Washington Strikers went ahead 1-0 on a 54th minute strike by Howard Trout. Powell then struck in the 58th, 62nd, and in the 67th minutes to give Nautica a 3-1 lead, and Tyrone Roberts made it 4-1 in the 80th minute. In the Duhaney Park feature game, defending champions Park Rovers were held to a well earned 0-0 draw.

At the Bell Chung Oval, Real Mona held host Santos to a 0-0 draw.

At Barbican, Eastern scored a 2-0 win over Rae Town on goals from Colin Williams in the 4th minute, and Richard Palmer in the 50th minute. In the Barbican feature, Brown's Town won their first game of the season when they edged Telecom Strikers 2-1. Telecom took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal by Valentine Evans, but goals by Horace Bingham (31st) and Lancelot Torpe in 55th minute gave Brown's Town the 2-1 win.

At Barbican Oval on Saturday, Harbour View survived a scare to down a competitive Kingston Commissioners 2-1 after the Commissioners took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute on a goal by Gary Gordon. However, striker Richard Coke rescued the Stars of the East with a welcomed brace in the 27th and 52nd minutes. It was Harbour View's fifth win from five outings, and kept them as sole leaders of Zone A with fifteen points.

In the Barbican feature game, Barbican edged Packers 2-1. Veteran striker Wayne Whonder gave the hosts the lead in the 29th minute, but Leroy Edwards equalized for Packers in the 52nd minute. With time winding down and the game seemed heading for a stalemate, Denton Shedden scored in the 78th minute to give Barbican the 2-1 win.

The NCB 24 Hour Top-Up masters league continues on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, with six double headers across the corporate area. At the Harbour View stadium at 3:00pm, it's Maxfield - Park Rovers, and at 4:30 pm, Harbour View hosts Lion King. At the Bell Chung Oval, it's Eastern - Washington Strikers at 3:00 pm, and Boy's Town play St. George's at 4:30 pm.

Up at Constant Spring Oval, Christian Ambassadors are favored over Rae Town at 3:00 pm, and at 4:30 pm, newcomers Constant Spring will test the well oiled machine of UWI Pelicans in the game of the week. At Buttercup Park, Professionals meet Nautica (3:00 pm), and Real Mona welcome Kush at 4:30 pm.

Up at the Barbican Oval, Brown's Town battle Shortwood at 3:00 pm, and Thunderbolts encounters Barbican at 4:30 pm. Over at Up-Park Camp, it's Santos and Kingston Commissioners at 3:00 pm, and at 4:30 pm, Packers meet JDF.
